Nice to meet you! My name is RJ Lackie. I was introduced to art conservation through a summer intensive course restoring ancient Roman ceramics in Italy. After that experience I went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), specializing in glass and ceramics. My Master’s thesis research focused on deterioration mechanisms of outdoor glazed ceramics. I then received my certification in the Advanced Professional Program (APP) for Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at UvA. During the APP training I performed research on the effects of heating epoxies, studying their discoloration after aging.

In the Netherlands I collaborated with the National Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) and various institutions, treating objects for museums and private clients. In the US I worked in the conservation departments at Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art (formerly Freer and Sackler Galleries) in Washington DC, and at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York.

Now based in Annapolis, MD, I am excited to offer my services to the DMV area through my own practice, Lackie Conservation and Restoration Studio.
